King River is a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is located 406 km south east of Perth and the closest populated town is Albany. The town takes its name from the King River which is located nearby, another town, Lower King that is further down river on Oyster Harbour.

The King River is a river in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The river rises east of the town of Redmond. The river flows for approximately 27 kilometres and along with the Kalgan River drains into Oyster Harbour and finally King George Sound north east of Albany. The river was named after Captain Phillip Parker King RN (1791-1856) by Dr Thomas Braidwood Wilson while exploring the region in December 1829.

Lower King, Western Australia
Lower King is a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is located 385 km south-east of Perth and the closest populated town is Albany. Located along the lower reaches of the King River on the western shore of Oyster Harbour, both the town and the river were named after Captain Philip Parker King who first visited the area in the 1818 aboard the Mermaid. The area was first settled in the 1830s but the townsite was not gazetted until 1959.
