Waldviertel

The Waldviertel (Forest Quarter) is the northwestern region of the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is bounded to the south by the Danube, to the southwest by Upper Austria, to the northwest and the north by the Czech Republic and to the east by the Manhartsberg (537 m), which is the survey point dividing Waldviertel from Weinviertel.

Waldviertel Pyramid

The Waldviertel Pyramid is a pyramid in Waldviertel, Austria. It is hidden deep in the forest between Zwettl and Gross-Gerungs. It is the only known structure of its kind in Central Europe. It is of unknown age, and consists of four stacked circular layers. The diameter at the base is 14 metres and the height is 7 metres. It has only been under official monument protection since 2001. The original purpose of the pyramid is unknown.
