Bertholdstein Abbey

Bertholdstein Abbey, or St. Gabriel's Abbey, is a Benedictine nunnery at Bertholdstein in Styria, Austria. The nunnery was founded in 1889 in Prague and was raised to the rank of an abbey in 1893. St. Gabriel’s was the first women’s community to join the Beuronese Congregation within the Benedictine Confederation. After World War I, the predominantly German-speaking community relocated to the castle at Bertholdstein in Styria.

Eisenberg an der Raab

Eisenberg an der Raab is a small village in Burgenland, Austria south of Sankt Martin an der Raab, near the Slovenian and Hungarian frontiers. The Virgin Mary is said to have appeared on October 8, 1955 to Mrs Aloisia Lex. From 1956 to 1992 at the site where Mary is said to have appeared there was a mysterious cross in the grass, the so-called Lawn Cross of Eisenberg. This cross was said to be a result neither of chemicals in the ground nor of physical effects.

Riegersburg Castle

Riegersburg Castle is a medieval castle situated on a dormant volcano above the town of Riegersburg in the Austrian state of Styria. The castle is owned by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein and contains a museum with changing exhibitions.

Battle of Saint Gotthard (1664)

The Battle of Saint Gotthard was fought on August 1, 1664 as part of the Austro-Turkish War (1663-1664), between an Habsburg army led by Raimondo Montecuccoli, Jean de Coligny-Saligny, Wolfgang Julius von Hohenlohe, Prince Leopold of Baden, Georg Friedrich of Waldeck and an Ottoman army under the command of Köprülü Fazıl Ahmed.
