1971 Bangladesh genocide

The 1971 Bangladesh genocide consisted of numerous atrocities and human rights abuses, beginning with Operation Searchlight on 25 March 1971 and continuing during the Bangladesh Liberation War, in East Pakistan Massacres, killings, rape, arson and systematic elimination of Hindus, political dissidents and the members of the liberation forces of Bangladesh were conducted by the Pakistan Army, with support from local political and religious militias.

Martyred Intellectuals Memorial

Martyred Intellectuals Memorial (Bengali: বুদ্ধিজীবি স্মৃতি সৌধ) is a memorial built in memory of the martyred intellectuals of Bangladesh Liberation War. The memorial, located at Rayerbazar, Mohammadpur Thana in Dhaka, was designed by architect Farid U Ahmed and Jami Al Shafi. The initial proposal for a memorial at Rayer Bazar was brought forward by Projonmo 71 (organisation of the children of the martyrs of liberation war), who also laid a temporary foundation stone in 1991.

Rayer Bazaar

Rayer Bazaar is a well-known thoroughfare in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It is generally regarded as one of the historical areas of the city. Rayer Bazaar was founded during the colonial period most probably in 19th century. It was the potters who first started to live here beside the Turag River. This Place was most probably named after someone titled Ray. It was easy to find the clays used to make pots in this area and spread it around by boats as it was situated near the river.

Ulpur

Ulpur is a village to the north of Golpalganj in Bangladesh. It has been founded by the Basu family as seat of their Zamindari & Jagir called Shahpur. Shahpur Pargana consisted of 27 villages and a population of 30200 in 1931 with Ulpur being the central village and seat of the Zamindari. Dasarath Basu arrived in the 11th century in Bengal.
