Heist-aan-Zee, or Heist, is a town in Knokke-Heist, West Flanders, Belgium. It was a prominent summer beach resort in the 1890s. It had a beach front lined with hotels and a "dike" paved walked way on a storm fender. Fishing boats were mooring on the beach, and one could purchase a ticket to bathe in the sea.

SM UB-10 was a German Type UB I submarine or U-boat in the German Imperial Navy during World War I. UB-10 was ordered in October 1914 and was laid down at the AG Weser shipyard in Bremen in November. UB-10 was a little under 92 feet in length and displaced between 127 and 141 metric tons (and), depending on whether surfaced or submerged. She carried two torpedoes for her two bow torpedo tubes and was also armed with a deck-mounted machine gun.
