Melsele is a small town in the municipality of Beveren located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Melsele is sandwiched between the city proper of Beveren and the nearby town of Zwijndrecht. Cortewalle Castle is a moated castle in Beveren in East Flanders, Belgium. The castle dates back to the 15th century, and is one of the oldest in the Waasland. It is built of white sandstone, in Flemish Renaissance style. For centuries it was in the possession successively of the Triest, Goubau and de Brouchoven de Bergeyck families, until the Brouchovens sold it to the municipality of Beveren, who use it for the storage of the extensive and important De Bergeyck archives.

It is currently used mostly for football matches, and is the home ground of Waasland-Beveren. The stadium's name (Freethiel) is a contraction of the name Frederik Thielemans, the man who owned a cycling-track in the Klapperstraat, but made it available to the football club when it was established.
