Port of Ghent

The port of Ghent is the third biggest port in Belgium. The first port of Ghent was situated at the Scheldt river and later on at the Lys river. Since the Middle Ages Ghent has sought for a connection to the sea. In the 13th century via the Lieve canal to the Zwin near Damme, in the 16th century via the Sassevaart, in the 17th century via the Ghent-Bruges Canal. Since the 19th century by the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal which connects via the Western Scheldt to the North Sea.

Oostakker

Oostakker, formerly spelled Oostacker, is one of the smaller former municipalities which were merged into Ghent (from which it is only two miles), the capital of the Belgian province of East Flanders. The hamlet is mainly known for its Roman Catholic shrine of the Virgin Mary.

Oostakker Basilica

The Oostakker Basilica is a church at Slotendries, Belgium. In 1873 the Marquise of Courtebourne-de Nédonchel had a Lourdes grotto built in the gardens of her château at Slotendries. People from Ghent and other nearby locations asked to be allowed to visit the grotto and pray there, and it was claimed that in 1875 Pieter De Rudder was miraculously healed of a compound fracture. To accommodate the resulting increase in the number of pilgrims, a neo-Gothic church based on plans by E.

Logos Tetrahedron

The Logos Tetrahedron is a concert hall in Ghent, Belgium adjacent to the Logos Foundation recording studio and offices. It has seating for 150 people and is equipped with sound and light infrastructure. Since the concert hall is in the shape of a tetrahedron, it has no straight angles and, as a result, no standing waves can occur. Acoustic waves can never amplify one another in phase and are reflected by the walls under ever changing angles.
