Battle of Fontenoy

The Battle of Fontenoy, 11 May 1745, was a major engagement of the War of the Austrian Succession, fought between the forces of the Pragmatic Allies – comprising mainly Dutch, British, and Hanoverian troops under the command of the Duke of Cumberland – and a French army under Maurice de Saxe, commander of King Louis XV's forces in the Low Countries. The battle is notable for several reasons.

Antoing Castle

Antoing Castle is one of Belgium's most original and well-known castles, situated in Antoing in Hainaut. It was first mentioned in the 12th century. Although the present structure of the castle dates from the 13th and 15th centuries, it was redesigned in Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century by the French architect Viollet-le-Duc. The castle at Antoing first belonged to the powerful Melun family, then passed in 1634 to the Princes de Ligne by inheritance, who still own it.

La Croix de la Grise

La Croix de la Grise is a monument atop an 81-metre hill in Havinnes, in the hills near Tournai, Belgium. It was put up in 1961 by Gabriel Dusquene de la Vinelle, leader of the French Resistance at Tournai during World War II.

Dubuisson Brewery

The Dubuisson Brewery (Brasserie Dubuisson Frères) is a Belgian family brewery founded in 1769 in Pipaix, province of Hainaut. They brew one of the strongest beers in Belgium, the Bush Ambrée at 12% ABV.

Tournai railway station

The railway station of Tournai, in Belgium, is situated on line 94. The first train arrived there on 24 January 1842. A first neo-classical stone building dating from the 1840s was later dismantled and replaced to serve as the railway station of the town of Leuze-en-Hainaut. The current station building was designed by Henri Beyaert and erected between 1874-1879.
