Battle of Walcourt

The Battle of Walcourt was fought on 25 August 1689 during the Nine Years' War. The action took place near the ancient walled town of Walcourt near Charleroi in the Spanish Netherlands, and brought to a close a summer of uneventful marching, manoeuvring, and foraging. The battle was a success for the Grand Alliance – the only significant engagement in the theatre during the campaign of 1689. The Allied army was commanded by the Prince of Waldeck; the French army by the duc de Humières.

Eau d'Heure lakes

The Eau d'Heure lakes (French: lacs de l'Eau d'Heure) is a complex of five artificial lakes, forming the largest lake area in Belgium. The dams were built during the seventies. The lakes are not far from the village of Cerfontaine (50 km south of the city of Charleroi) and the border with France. They are situated within the municipalities of Cerfontaine and Froidchapelle. The primary river feeding the lakes is the Eau d'Heure. There are five dams and one hydro-electric power station.

Roly Castle

Roly Castle (French: Château-ferme de Roly) is a château-ferme, or fortified farmhouse, in Roly in the municipality of Philippeville, province of Namur, Belgium. The existence of a fortification, in the form of a tower, is recorded here as early as 1069, but the present donjon dates from the 13th century, and this is the oldest extant part of the buildings.

Castle of Thy-le-Château

The Castle of Thy-le-Chateau is a medieval castle located in Namur, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century, it served as the military fortress for several noble clans until the French Revolution, when it fell into disrepair. The castle was successfully restored in 1939.
