Almenara, Minas Gerais
Almenara is a city in the northeast of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Situated on the Jequitinhonha River it is the largest town in that river valley. Its 2007 population was estimated at 36,907 and the municipal area was 2,301 km². It was founded on 13 January 1938. In 1981 the city was made the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Almenara. Rubim is a municipality in the northeast of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Its population in 2007 was 9,561 inhabitants in a total area of 969 km². Rubim belongs to the Almenara statistical microregion. The elevation of the municipal seat is 254 meters. It became a municipality in 1943. This municipality is located in the valley of the Rubim do Sul River, a tributary of the Jequitinhonha River.
