Angkor Borei and Phnom Da

The ancient Funan sites of Angkor Borei and Phnom Da are located in the Angkor Borei District, Takéo Province, of southern Cambodia. The earliest dated archaeological material from these sites is from roughly 400 BC. They contain the earliest known dated Khmer inscriptions as well as the earliest tradition of Khmer sculpture. The hill of Phnom Da contains an 11th Century temple that is still standing.

Tonle Bati

Tonle Bati is a small lake about 30 km south of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. It is a popular weekend destination for the local population. It is also a popular fishing spot for both tourists and people who live locally. Close to the lake, there is a temple, Ta Prohm, built in the 12th century by Jayavarman VII. It is located off the highway to Takeo. 20 minutes south of the lake there is another temple called Phnom Chisor.

Takéo

For the Japanese city, see Takeo, Saga. Takéo is the capital of Takéo Province, Cambodia. As of 1998 it had a population of 39,186. The town and province is known for its silk weaving and the province is home to about 10,000 of the total of 15,000 Cambodian weavers. Most silk weavers in the villages are near the national highway in the direction of Takeo town. The technique of silk weaving could have come to the Khmer during the Funan Empire, probably in the 2nd century, from India and China.
