Diocese of Athabasca

The Anglican Diocese of Athabasca is a diocese of the Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert's Land of the Anglican Church of Canada, in the northern half of the civil province of Alberta. It was created in 1874 by the division of the original Diocese of Rupert's Land. The Synod of the Diocese of Athabasca was organized in 1876. The see city is Peace River. The Diocese has had at least two other See Cities: Fort Simpson and Fort Vermilion.

Peace River, Alberta

Peace River is a town in northwestern Alberta, Canada, situated along the banks of the Peace River, at its confluence with the Smoky River, the Heart River and Pat's Creek. It is located 486 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, and 198 kilometres northeast of Grande Prairie, along Highway 2. The Peace River townsite is nearly 1,000 feet below the relatively flat terrain surrounding it.

Peace River Formation

The Peace River Formation is a stratigraphical unit of middle Albian age in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. It takes the name from the Peace River, and was first described on the banks of the river, downstream from the Smoky River confluence to the mouth of the Notikewin River by McConnell in 1893.

Shaftesbury Settlement, Alberta

Shaftesbury Settlement is an unincorporated community in Alberta, Canada within the Municipal District of Peace No. 135 that is recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada. It is located on the southeast side of Highway 684, 4 km south of Highway 2. It is adjacent to the Town of Peace River to the north on the west shore of the Peace River. The Shaftesbury Formation, a stratigraphic unit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin was named for the settlement.
