Vermilion is a town in central Alberta, Canada within the County of Vermilion River. Located at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 41 the town is a regional hub for government, educational and agricultural services. The majority of the town sits directly south of the Vermilion River (Alberta) Valley. The damming of the river in 1954, necessary for power generation, resulted in the creation of a large reservoir.
