Maple Bay is a picturesque seaside community located in the Cowichan Valley of southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. A narrow inlet and surrounded by smooth, pebbled beaches, Maple Bay is home to marine activity all year round. The sheltered haven of Maple Bay is situated halfway up Sansum Narrows, which separates Vancouver Island from Saltspring Island, the largest and nearest of the southern Gulf Islands.

Sansum Narrows
Sansum Narrows is a strait or channel between Vancouver Island (W) and Saltspring Island (E) in the Southern Gulf Islands region of British Columbia, Canada. It is crossed by a BC Ferries route from Crofton (just north of Duncan) to Vesuvius Bay on the northwestern shore of Saltspring. Its southern outlet adjoins Saanich Inlet while its northern outlet is Houstoun Passage. The powerline HVDC Vancouver-Island crosses Sansum Narrows in a 1900 metres long span.

St. Clare's Monastery is a monastery of the Order of St. Clare in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. The nuns of the order also go by the name "Poor Clares". They are a contemplative community of women who live the charism of Saint Clare of Assisi and form the Second Order in the movement started by Saint Francis of Assisi. In 1912, three nuns came to Victoria, British Columbia from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Cowichan River
The Cowichan River is a moderately sized river in British Columbia, Canada. It originates in Cowichan Lake, flowing east towards its end at Cowichan Bay. Its drainage basin is 795 square kilometres in size. Shortly after exiting Cowichan Lake, the river drops over Skutz Falls, a small waterfall that is often visited when fish are climbing the fish ladder constructed beside the falls. The river is widely considered one of the finest trout fishing streams in British Columbia.
