Grindstone Island (Ontario)

The island was used by Charles Kingsmill, the first Admiral of the Royal Canadian Navy, as his summer residence. The main lodge was built in the early 20th century around an earlier 19th century structure. During the 1960s and 1970s, the island was used as a Quaker non-violence training centre and also as a co-operative conference centre.

Portland, Ontario

Portland is a community located in Eastern Ontario within the township of Rideau Lakes in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario, Canada, north of Kingston and situated on the Big Rideau Lake. Portland was first settled in the early 19th century as one of the first settlements along the Rideau Waterway. The original seven houses in Portland, informally known as "The Landing", were a transfer point for passengers travelling from Brockville and continuing by barge to Perth.

Foley House

Foley House, located at 45 and 47 Main Street, Westport, Ontario, Canada is of significant historical note because of its connection to Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Perhaps because of the Foley family acquaintance with several Fathers of Confederation, the Foley family played a prominent commercial role from this home and mercantile situated at the high water point of the Rideau Canal.
