Amherst Island

Amherst Island is located in Lake Ontario, 10 kilometres west of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Contrary to popular perception, Amherst Island is not one of the Thousand Islands. The island is part of Loyalist Township in Lennox and Addington County. Amherst Island is located about 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) offshore from the rest of Loyalist Township and is serviced by an automobile and truck ferry from Millhaven.

Millhaven Institution

Millhaven Institution is a maximum security prison located in Bath, Ontario. Approximately 400 inmates are incarcerated at Millhaven. Opened in 1971, Millhaven was originally built to replace the area's other maximum security prison. A riot at Kingston Penitentiary forced Millhaven to open prematurely. During the period of 1977–1984, a Special Handling Unit (SHU) operated at Millhaven along with its general maximum-security population.

Marysburgh vortex

The Marysburgh Vortex is an area of eastern Lake Ontario with a record of shipwrecks which has fueled theories of paranormal explanations and drawn comparison to the Bermuda Triangle. According to shipping and insurance records during the schooner era and the early days of steamship travel, more than two thirds of the shipwrecks in Lake Ontario occurred in the area encompassed by the alleged Vortex.
