Tarrafal camp

Tarrafal (also known as Campo da Morte Lenta, the "Camp of the Slow Death") was a prison camp in the Portuguese colony of Cape Verde, set up by the dictator António de Oliveira Salazar after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936), where opponents of his right-wing authoritarian regime were sent. At least 32 anarchists, communists, and other opponents of Salazar's regime died thereTemplate:Who?.

Tarrafal, Cape Verde (municipality)

Tarrafal is a municipality located in the northern part of the island of Santiago in Sotavento in Cape Verde. The municipal population is around 18000, the area is 112.4 km² and the density is about 160/km². Tarrafal is located 75 km NNW of Cape Verde's capital, Praia. Farmland surrounds the main town to the north and east and in the southern valley areas. The Serra da Malagueta mountain range lies to the south.

São Miguel is a municipality located in the northeastern part of the island of Santiago in Sotavento in southcentral Cape Verde. The municipal population is around 16,104, the area is 91 km² and the density is about 176/km². São Miguel is located about 60 km NNW of Cape Verde's capital Praia, SE of Tarrafal and N of Assomada and Picos. São Miguel is linked with a highway linking Tarrafal and Praia and a mountain road to the Tarrafal–Assomada Route which also links to Assomada and Picos.
