Paso Internacional Los Libertadores

The Paso Internacional Los Libertadores, also called Cristo Redentor, is a mountain pass in the Andes between Argentina and Chile. It is the main transport route out of Chilean capital city Santiago into Mendoza city in Argentina and so carries quite heavy traffic. From the Argentine side the route to the pass is a slow, gentle incline until entering a tunnel at around 3,500 m through the mountains.

Christ the Redeemer of the Andes

Christ the Redeemer of the Andes (Spanish: Cristo Redentor de los Andes) is a monument high in the Andes at 3,832 metres (12,572 ft) above mean sea level on the border between Argentina and Chile. It was unveiled on 13 March 1904 as a celebration of the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between the two countries. The statue is located at the pass of La Cumbre, the highest point on the old road between Mendoza in Argentina and Santiago de Chile.

Portillo, Chile

Portillo is a ski resort located 160 kilometers from Santiago, Chile, near the city of Los Andes. Its base sits at 2880 meters above sea level and its highest point reaches 3332 meters above sea level. Ski Portillo has 23 ski trails and 12 lifts. Plans to build the ski area were drawn up in the 1930s. Construction began in 1942 and the ski area was opened in 1949.

Uspallata Pass

The Uspallata Pass or Bermejo Pass is an Andean pass which provides a route between the wine-growing region around the Argentine city of Mendoza, the Chilean city Los Andes and Santiago the Chilean capital situated in the central Chilean valley. The pass has been used since Colonial times as the most direct link between the Pacific seaport of Valparaiso and the Atlantic port of Buenos Aires, avoiding the 11 day, 5,630 km journey by sea, via Cape Horn, between the two ports.

National Route A006 (Argentina)

National Route A006 is a gravel road of 8.5 km connecting the town of Las Cuevas on the nortwhest of the province of Mendoza with the Christ the Redeemer monument in the border between Argentina and Chile. This road is only open in the summer season. It is always important to inquire in the cities of Mendoza or Uspallata on the road conditions as it could be impassable at times. In it winding length it changes altitude from 3,151 m to 3,832 m .
