Battle of Fuzhou

The Battle of Fuzhou, or Battle of Foochow, also known as the Battle of the Pagoda Anchorage, was the opening engagement of the 16-month Sino-French War (December 1883–April 1885). The battle was fought on 23 August 1884 off the Pagoda Anchorage in Mawei (馬尾) harbour, 15 kilometres to the southeast of the city of Fuzhou (Foochow). During the battle Admiral Amédée Courbet's Far East Squadron virtually destroyed the Fujian Fleet, one of China's four regional fleets.

Min River (Fujian)

The Min River is a 577 kilometres -long river in Fujian province, People's Republic of China. It is the largest river in Fujian, and an important water transport channel. Most of northern and central Fujian is within its drainage area. The provincial capital, Fuzhou, sits on the lower Min River, with its historic center being on the northern side of the river.

Long River (Fujian)

The Long River or Longjiang is a river in Fujian Province of China. It starts in Hanjiang District (part of Putian Prefecture-level City), and crosses into the neighboring Fuqing City (part of Fuzhou Prefecture-level City). It flows into the Taiwan Strait in Haikou Town, Fuqing City. The river is dammed upstream of Honglu Town; the dam forms the Dongzhang Reservoir, on the northern shore of which Dongzhang Town is located.

St. John's Church, Fuzhou

St. John's Church is an abandoned Anglican church located in Lequn Street No. 9, Cangshan District, Fuzhou, China. It is also known in the Foochow vernacular as "石厝教堂" (Siŏh-chuó Gáu-dòng, lit. , Stone House Church). Completed in 1860, the church was donated by British people living in Fuzhou in 1858. The church is of a typical Gothic style. T. C. Walkers was the engineer who designed the building.
