Huangyaguan

Huangyaguan or Huangya Pass is a small section of the Great Wall of China located in the north of Ji County, Tianjin municipality, approximately 78 miles north of urban Tianjin city. The site lies on a steep and abrupt mountain ridge. Huangyaguan was originally built over 1400 years ago in the Northern Qi Dynasty and reinforced with brick walls in the Ming Dynasty. In 1984, major repair work has been performed on over 3 kilometres of the wall including on 20 water towers and 1 water pass.

USS Monocacy incident

The USS Monocacy incident was an attack on the American gunboat Monocacy in January 1918 by Chinese soldiers along the Yangtze River. It was one of many incidents at the time involving armed Chinese firing on foreign vessels.

Xinglong Station (NAOC)

Xinglong Station is an observatory (IAU code 327) situated south of the main peak of the Yanshan mountains in Hebei province, China. Installed are seven telescopes: a Mark-III photoelectric astrolabe; a 60 cm reflector; an 85 cm reflector; a 60/90 cm Schmidt telescope; an 1.26m infrared telescope; and a 2.16m telescope. The most recent telescope is the 4m LAMOST. It is a popular tourist site.

LAMOST

The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), also known as the Guoshoujing Telescope after the 13th century Chinese astronomer, is a meridian reflecting Schmidt telescope, located in Xinglong Station, Hebei Province, China. Undertaken by the Chinese Academy of Science, the telescope is planned to conduct a 5-year spectroscopic survey of 10 million Milky Way stars, as well as millions of galaxies. The project’s budget is RMB 235 million yuan.

Malanyu

Malanyu is a town approximately 30 kilometres west of the city of Zunhua, Hebei, China, which administrates the town. It is the location of the final resting place of some of the Qing emperors and empresses. Malanyu lies about 120 kilometers from the Forbidden City in Beijing.
