Pailou, Liaoning

Pailou is a small mining town about 20 kilometers southeast of Haicheng, Liaoning in Northeast China. Having to locate on the outskirt of a major city, this town consists of a main boulevard that extends from west to east. Much of the older apartments are built in the late 1980s and early 1990s while the newer ones are constructed from the late 90s till present. It has an area of 95.68 square kilometers and a population of 39,900.

1975 Haicheng earthquake

The 1975 Haicheng earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale occurred at 19:36 CST on February 4, 1975 in Haicheng, Liaoning, China, a city that at the time had approximately 1 million residents. Local political leaders ordered evacuations a day before the earthquake took place. This successful evacuation saved many lives. This was the only successful evacuation before a devastating earthquake in history.
