Haiyuan County

Haiyuan County is a county under the administration of Zhongwei city in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It originally belonged to Gansu province. The county has a total area of 6897 square kilometers, and a population of approximately 360,000 people. It was the site of the 1920 Haiyuan earthquake, which killed at least 200,000 people.

Ningxia

Ningxia, officially Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR), is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China located in the northwest part of the country. Formerly a province, Ningxia was incorporated into Gansu in 1954 but, in 1958, broke off from Gansu and was reconstituted as an autonomous region for the Hui people, one of the 56 officially recognised nationalities of China.

1920 Haiyuan earthquake, was an earthquake that occurred on December 16, 1920. The epicenter was {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:36.50|N|105.70|E||||| | |name= }}, in Haiyuan County, Ningxia Province, Republic of China. It was also called the 1920 Gansu earthquake because Ningxia was a part of Gansu Province when the earthquake occurred.
