Qiao's Compound

The Qiao Family Compound is located 30 kilometers northeast of the historic Pingyao city, China. It is famous for being the chief location in the film Raise the Red Lantern. Begun during the reign of the Qing Dynasty's Emperor Qianlong (in 1756) and finished in the 18th century, it is a courtyard estate covering 9000 square meters and having 313 rooms with 4000 square meters within 6 large courtyards and 19 smaller courtyards. Its original Chinese name was Zai Zhong Tang (在中堂).

Shanxi

 Shanxi is a province of People's Republic of China, located in North China region. Its one-character abbreviation is "晋" which is derived from Jin State which existed here during Spring and Autumn Period. The name Shanxi literally means "mountain's west", indicating the province is on the west of Taihang Mountains. Shanxi borders Hebei province to the east, Henan province to the south, Shaanxi province to the west, and Inner Mongolia to the north.
