La Fortuna Waterfall (Spanish for "the fortune") is located in central Costa Rica, in the Alajuela Province. In Spanish, it is known as Catarata Fortuna. The waterfall drops about 70-75 meters and is located at the base of the dormant Chato volcano, about 5.5 km outside of the town of La Fortuna, near the Arenal Volcano. It is fed by the Tenorio River, which travels through the rain forest in the Arenal Mountain range until it plunges over the cliff, forming this waterfall.

The Central America Volcanic Arc (often abbreviated to CAVA) is a chain of volcanoes which extends parallel to the Pacific coast line of the Central American Isthmus, from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and down to northern Panama. This volcanic arc, which has a length of 1500 km, is formed by an active subduction zone along the western boundary of the Caribbean Plate.

San Ramón is the name of the second canton in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 1,018.64 square kilometres, and has a population of 72,568 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is also called San Ramón. An oddly-shaped canton, San Ramon stretches north through the eastern heights of the Cordillera de Tilarán, looking down on the Central Valley (Valle Central) to its east. The canton forms the border with the province of Guanacaste to the west.

The capital city of the canton is Zarcero. It is a diamond-shaped canton, with the Río Espina (Thornbush River) as the border on the northwest and the southwest sides. The Río Toro (Bull River) forms the southeastern border, and the Río La Vieja (Old Woman River) borders the northeast.
