The canton covers an area of 118.26 km², and has a population of 206,708, making it the third most populated among the 81 cantons of Costa Rica. El Guarco is the name of the eighth canton in the province of Cartago in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 167.69 square kilometres, and has a population of 36,291 (estimate as of 2003). The capital city of the canton is El Tejar. El Guarco is an elongated canton that stretches southeast from its capital city to encompass a swatch of the Cordillera de Talamanca (Talamanca Mountain Range). The Carretera Interamericana delineates the canton's lengthy southwestern border.

San Marcos, Costa Rica
San Marcos or San Marcos de Tarrazú is the capital city of the canton of Tarrazú in the province of San José in Costa Rica. It is also the name of the distrito (district) that includes the city. The district of San Marcos covers an area of 42.07 km², and has a population of 8,817. The city lies at an elevation of 1,429 meters above sea level in a mountainous area known as Los Santos, 70 kilometers south of the national capital city of San José.
