Riberino Zapandi Wetlands is a nature reserve, part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area and Tempisque Conservation Area in northwestern Costa Rica, which protects low wetlands around the Quebrada Grande and the Ahogados River in the Tempisque River watershed.

Puente La Amistad de Taiwán
Puente La Amistad de Taiwán spans the Tempisque River, in Guanacaste, northern Costa Rica. Although generally known as a cable-stayed bridge, it is really a hybrid bridge composed of a cable-stayed span and a pillar-supported bridge. Chira Island is a 3,000-hectare Costa Rican Pacific island located at the upper end of the Gulf of Nicoya, an extensive inlet of sea water that is the result of a geological fault that has caused the land to submerge, leaving exposed only the tops of what were formerly low hills. Barra Honda National Park
Barra Honda National Park is a national park in the western part of Costa Rica, which forms part of the Tempisque Conservation Area about 12 km (7.46 mi) from the Tempisque River. It was created in 1974 to protect its famous cave systems, under the Barra Honda Peak which was formed when islets from the Miocene Era were raised above the plains of the river.

Abangares (canton)
Abangares is the seventh canton in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 675.76 km², and has a population of 17,289. Its capital city is Las Juntas. The canton begins on the coastline of the Gulf of Nicoya north of the mouth of the Río Abangares. It widens between the Río Lajas on the northwest and Río Lagartos on the east as it reaches up into the Cordillera de Tilarán.
