La Cruz (canton)

La Cruz is the tenth canton in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 1,383.90 km², and has a population of 18,004. Its capital city is also called La Cruz. The canton is the northernmost in the country. It encompasses the Pacific coastline from the border with Nicaragua as far south as Bahía Nancite, including the Península de Santa Elena.

Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage Site

The Area de Conservación Guanacaste, is a World Heritage Site in the northwestern part of Costa Rica, which comprises Santa Rosa, Guanacaste, Rincón de la Vieja National Parks and the Junquillal Bay Wildlife Refuge. It formally became part of National System of Conservation Areas in 1994, and then a World Heritage site in 1999. The area of the parks combined totals 1470 square kilometers as of 2004.

Guanacaste Conservation Area

Guanacaste Conservation Area is an administrative area which is managed by SINAC for the purposes of conservation in the northwestern part of Costa Rica. It contains three National Parks, as well as wildlife refuges and other nature reserves. The area contains the Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage Site, which comprises the first four areas in the below list.

Cárdenas, Rivas

Cárdenas is a municipality in the Rivas department of Nicaragua. In 2002, the municipality of Cardenas had threatened the government in Managua with sucsesion and becoming part of Costa Rica. Costa Rica claimed that it would respect Nicaraguan territory and had no intention of annexing the municipality.

San Juan del Sur

San Juan del Sur is a municipality and coastal town on the Pacific Ocean, in the Rivas department in south-west Nicaragua. San Juan del Sur is popular among surfers and is a vacation spot for many Nicaraguan families and foreign tourists.
