Kikwit

Kikwit is the largest city of Bandundu Province, lying on the Kwilu River in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kikwit is also known in the region under the nickname "The Mother". The population is approximately 397,737 (2012). An important commercial and administrative centre, it is home to a stadium and is known for its traditional dances, in particular the Bapende dancers whose geographic origin centers around the village of Gungu.

Kwilu District

Kwilu District is a district located in the Bandundu province, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It takes its name from the Kwilu River, which crosses the district from south to north. Under the constitution of 18 February 2006, Kwilu District was scheduled to be combined with the city of Kikwit to become Kwilu Province, one of the 25 new provinces into which the DRC would be divided by February 2009. Kikwit would be a capital of the new province.

Kwenge River

The Kwenge River is a stream in the Bandundu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It flows north from the Angolan border through the Kwango and Kwilu districts, joining the Kwilu River below Kikwit. Lusanga, formerly Leverville, is at the confluence of the Kwenge and Kwilu rivers. The land between the Kwilu and the Kwenge was first occupied be the Pende people.
