Lualaba Province (proposed)

Lualaba is a proposed province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that was to be established when the country's new constitution was implemented, originally slated for February 2009. The new province was to be formed by combining Lualaba District, Kolwezi District and the city of Kolwezi. Kolwezi was to be the capital of the province. As of October 2010, this had not taken place.

Lake Nzilo

Lake Nzilo (formerly Lake Delcommune, also Lac del Commune) is an artificial lake formed by a hydroelectric dam on the Lualaba River in the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is about 10 miles northeast of the major copper mining area of Kolwezi. The lake was originally named after the Belgian soldier and explorer Alexandre Delcommune. The hydroelectric dam was built to provide power for mining operations. The lake also provides a source of water for these operations.

Kolwezi tailings project

The Kolwezi tailings project is a major project in the Kolwezi mining area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to recover copper from the tailings, or processed ore, from mining in the region since the 1950s. The project was developed by the Canadian mining companies Adastra Minerals and then First Quantum Minerals between 2004 and 2009, when the DRC government revoked First Quantum's license.
