The University of Lubumbashi (also known by the acronym UNILU) is one of the largest universities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located in Lubumbashi, the capital city of Katanga province. The campus is located in the northern part of the city, west of the airport. The university was created in 1955 as the oficial university of Congo and Rwanda-Urundi (French: université officielle du Congo et du Rwanda-Urundi) by the University of Liège and opened in 1956.

Haut-Katanga Province (proposed)
Haut-Katanga Province is a proposed province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, originally due to be established when the country's new constitution was implemented in February 2009. The new province was to consist of the Haut-Katanga District and the cities of Lubumbashi and Likasi. Lubumbashi would be the capital. As of October 2010, the new province had not yet come into existence. In September 2011 the position of "Minister of Decentralization" was abolished.
