Tungurahua

Tungurahua, is an active stratovolcano located in the Cordillera Oriental of Ecuador. The volcano gives its name to the province of Tungurahua. Volcanic activity restarted on August 19, 1999, and is ongoing as of 2012, with major eruptions on 16 August 2006, 6 February 2008, 28 May 2010, 4 December 2010 and 26 April 2011, and again in March 2013.

1797 Riobamba earthquake

The 1797 Riobamba earthquake occurred at 12:30 UTC on 4 February. It devastated the city of Riobamba and many other cities in the Interandean valley, causing up to 40,000 casualties. It is estimated that seismic intensities in the epicentral area reached at least XI on the Mercalli scale, and that the earthquake had a magnitude of 8.3, the most powerful historical event known in Ecuador. The earthquake was studied by Alexander von Humboldt, when he visited the area in 1801/2.

Chimborazo Province

Chimborazo is a province in Ecuador, located in the central Ecuadorian Andes, containing a section of Sangay National Park. The capital is Riobamba. The province contains Chimborazo (6,267 m), Ecuador's highest mountain.

Estadio Olímpico, commonly referred to as Estadio Olímpico de Riobamba to disambiguate it from other stadiums of a similar name, is a multi-use stadium in Riobamba, Ecuador. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Olmedo in addition to other lower division clubs in the city. The stadium holds 18,936 spectators and opened in 1926.
