Created in 1820, it is one of the most important cites of Guayas thanks to its rice production and other products such as corn and eggs. The Daule canton covers an area of 462 square kilometres and as of the 2001 census it had a population of 85,148 people. The seat or capital of the canton is the city of Daule.

At the 2007 census there were 125,358 people living within canton limits, thus is one of the most important cities in the province. The main crop is rice. Every September fourteenth in Daule people celebrate "El Señor de Los Milagros" festival. That day people go to the church called El Señor de los Milagros and at night they watch fireworks.
