Battle of Pichincha

The Battle of Pichincha took place on 24 May 1822, on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano, 3,500 meters above sea-level, right next to the city of Quito, in modern Ecuador. The encounter, fought in the context of the Spanish American wars of independence, pitted a Patriot army under General Antonio José de Sucre against a Royalist army commanded by Field Marshal Melchor Aymerich.

Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve

Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua (Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve) is a protected area around Pululuhua Volcano in the north of Quito Canton, Pichincha Province, Ecuador. It is 17 km north of Quito, in the northwestern part of the Pomasqui Valley.

Pululagua

Pululagua is a dormant volcano in the north of Quito Canton, Pichincha Province, Ecuador. The volcano is in the Western Cordillera of the northern Ecuadorian Andes, approximately west-southwest of Mojanda and north of Casitahua volcanoes. Pululagua's caldera is approximately 5 km wide. The volcano is within an Ecuadorian national park known as Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua.

Calacalí

Calacalí is a rural parish of Quito Canton, Pichincha Province, Ecuador. It is northwest of Casitagua Volcano and southwest of Pululagua Volcano. In the central square of Calacalí there is an equator monument. A similar, larger equator monument is in Mitad del Mundo. Calacalí is the first village of the eastern end of a road known as Carretera Calacalí-La Independencia.
