Monastery of Saint Mina

The Monastery of Saint Mina is a Coptic Orthodox monastery located in the Western Desert near Alexandria. The modern monastery is built close to the ruins of Abu Mena, the original pilgrimage site, which was destroyed by the Arabs during the Muslim conquest of Egypt of the mid-7th century.

Abu Mena

Abu Mena was a town, monastery complex and Christian pilgrimage center in Late Antique Egypt, about 45 km southwest of Alexandria. Its remains were designated a World Heritage Site in 1979. There are very few standing remains, but the foundations of most major buildings, such as the great basilica, are easily discernible. Recent agricultural efforts in the area have led to a significant rise in the water table, which has caused a number of the site's buildings to collapse or become unstable.

Borg El Arab Airport

Borg El Arab International Airport is an airport serving Alexandria, Egypt. It is located about 40 km southwest of Alexandria, in Borg El Arab . The airport also serves the nearby areas of the Nile Delta. In 2009, the airport served 371,605 passengers (+96.5% vs. 2008). Borg El Arab is the principal airport of Alexandria starting December 2011 after the closure of Alexandria International Airport due to a major re-development program that will take two years in development.

Abusir (Lake Mariout)

Abusir, or Abousir (ancient Taposiris Magna) is a seaside town on the shore of Lake Mariout on the western extremity of Egypt's Nile delta. It is situated about 48 kilometres SW of Alexandria. Ruins of an ancient temple and an ancient replica of the Lighthouse of Alexandria are to be seen here. As of 2009, it is also suspected to be the burial place of Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony.
