Ocotepeque is one of the 18 departments of Honduras, Central America, located in the West and bordering both El Salvador and Guatemala. It was formed in 1906 from part of Copán department. The capital and main city is Ocotepeque. The department covers a total surface area of 1,680 km² and, in 2005, had an estimated population of 118,558.

Ocotepeque is a town and municipality in the Honduran department of Ocotepeque. It is the capital of the department, which borders two countries, Guatemala and El Salvador. The department covers 1630 square kilometers, is mostly mountainous, and has a population of 111,474 (2006). Its main economic activities are agricultural, including coffee, corn, cabbage, sugar cane, and onions.

Chalatenango Department

Chalatenango is a department of El Salvador, located in the northwest of the country. The capital is the city of Chalatenango. The Chalatenango Department encompasses 2,017 km² and contains more than 220,000 inhabitants. Las Matras Archaeological Ruins contains the relics of prehistoric populations and caves in which rock writing is found. The "5 de Noviembre" Hydroelectric Dam is found in Chalatenango Department, near the border with Cabañas.
