Dekemhare

Dekemhare is a town in Eritrea, lying south east of Asmara. Developed by the Italians as an industrial center, it became a large scale industrial and transportation city, known for its vineyards but was largely destroyed in the Eritrean War of Independence.

Asmara International Airport

Asmara International Airport, formerly known as Yohannes IV International Airport is an airport in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. In 2004, the airport served 136,526 passengers (+11.8% vs. '03). Asmara Airport has severe capacity restrictions, due to its small terminal, short runway and 1.5 mile altitude. This means that large jet aircraft cannot fly to the airport. Aircraft of this size would need to use Massawa International Airport, on the Eritrean coast.

Governor's Palace, Asmara

The Governor's Palace is the city hall of Asmara, Eritrea. It was built during the colonial period in the city centre, in an Italian art-deco style.

Hamasien

Hamasien was a historical province including and surrounding Asmara, part of modern Eritrea. In 1996 the province was divided and distributed amongst the modern Maekel, Debub, Northern Red Sea, Gash-Barka, and Anseba regions. Hamasien's population predominantly follow Oriental Orthodox Christianity and are members of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, with a considerable minority from the Sunni Muslim, Roman Catholic, and Lutheran communities.
