Hager Fikir Theatre

The Hager Fikir Theatre in Addis Ababa is not only the theatre with the greatest tradition in Ethiopia but also the oldest indigenous theatre in Africa. It stands for more than 70 years of cultural life in Addis Ababa. It is a playhouse where modern Ethiopian music and drama were born and nurtured. Many stars like Aster Aweke, Tilahun Gessesse and Frew Hailu began their careers on the stage of Hager Fikir Theatre.

Addis Mercato (Amharic for "New Market", popularly just Mercato, from the Italian for "market") is the name for the large open-air marketplace in the Addis Ketema district of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and for the neighborhood in which it is located. Mercato is the largest open air market in Africa, covering several square miles and employing an estimated 13,000 people in 7,100 business entities.

Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, sometimes spelled Addis Abeba (the spelling used by the official Ethiopian Mapping Authority), is the capital city of Ethiopia. It is the largest city in Ethiopia, with a population of 3,384,569 according to the 2007 population census with annual growth rate of 3.8%. Based on this estimation, the population on the year 2013 would be 4,156,251. This datum has been increased from the originally published 2,738,248 figure and appears possibly largely underestimated still.
