Asayita (woreda)

Asayita is one of the woredas in the Afar Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Administrative Zone 1, Asayita is bordered on the south by Afambo, on the west by Dubti, then on the north by the Awash River which separates it from Elidar, and on the east by Djibouti. The major town in Asayita is Asayita. Part of the shoreline of Lake Gargori lie within the boundaries of this woreda.

Lake Gummare

Afar Region

The Afar Regional State is one of the nine regional states (kililoch) of Ethiopia, and is the homeland of the Afar people. Formerly known as Region 2, its new capital as of 2007 capital is the recently constructed city of Semera, which lies on the paved Awash–Asseb highway. The Afar Depression, also known under the outdated name Danakil Depression, is part of the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia, and is located in the north of the region.
