Magech River

The Magech River is a river of Ethiopia. Gelila Zakarias

Gelila Zakarias is an island in the northwestern part of Lake Tana in Ethiopia. Located southwest of the Gorgora peninsula, Daga has a latitude and longitude of {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:12|10|N|37|11|E||| |primary |name= }}. The island is a circular, forested cone with the monastery church of Iyasus at the peak. When R.E. Cheesman visited it in 1933, he found the monastery flourishing, and the abbot invited him to partake in their Lenten far.

Battle of Gur Amba

The Battle of Gur Amba was fought on 27 September 1852 between the forces of the Ethiopian regent, Ras Ali II, and the rebel forces of Kassa Hailu. Kassa was victorious, and Goshu Zewde of Gojjam, the commander of the regent's forces, was killed. This was the first of a series of four victories which led to Kassa becoming Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia. This battle followed three years of peace between Kassa and Ras Ali, which ended in 1852 when Kassa refused to respond to Ras summons.
