Tigray Province

Tigray was a province of Ethiopia. The Tigray Region superseded the province with the adoption of the new constitution in 1995. The province of Tigre (as it was known prior to the mid-1800s) merged with its neighboring provinces, including Semien, Tembien, Agame and the prominent Enderta province and towards the end of 19th century it came to be known as Tigray province.

Battle of Adwa

The Battle of Adwa (also known as Adowa, or sometimes by the Italian name Adua) was fought on 1 March 1896 between the Ethiopian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy near the town of Adwa, Ethiopia, in Tigray. It was the climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War, securing Ethiopian sovereignty. As the 20th century approached, most of Africa had been carved up among the European powers.

Mereb Lehe

Mereb Lehe is one of the woredas in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mehakelegnaw Zone, it is bordered on the south by La'ilay Maychew, on the southwest by Tahtay Maychew, on the west by the Semien Mi'irabawi (North Western) Zone, on the north by the Mareb River (which separates it from Eritrea), on the east by Enticho, and on the southeast by Adwa. The administrative center of this woreda is Rama; other towns include La'ilay Merhisenay.

Werie Lehe

Werie Lehe is one of the woredas in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mehakelegnaw Zone, Werie Lehe is bordered on the south by the Wari River which separates it from Kola Tembien, on the southwest by Naeder Adet, on the west by La'ilay Maychew, on the north by Adwa, on the northeast by Enticho, and on the east by the Misraqawi (Eastern) Zone. The administrative center of this woreda is Edaga Arbi; other towns in Werie Lehe include Maykinetal, and Nebelet.

Mehakelegnaw Zone

Maákelay (or "The central ") is a Zone in the Ethiopian Region of Tigray. Mehakelegnaw is bordered on the east by Misraqawi (Eastern), on the south by Debub Misraqawi (South Eastern), on the west by Semien Mi'irabawi (Noth Western) and on the north by Eritrea. Towns and cities in Mehakelegnaw include Axum and Adwa, as well as the historically significant village of Yeha and the ancient monastery of Debre Damo.
