Kiehimänjoki

Kiehimänjoki is a river of Finland. It flows for 16 kilometres. The river begins from lake Iijärvi in Paltamo in Kainuu region and ends to the lake Oulujärvi, from which the waters flow trough the Oulujoki River into the Gulf of Bothnia. The river drains a chain of lakes that originates in the municipalities of Suomussalmi and Hyrynsalmi in Kainuu.

Kainuu

Kainuu is a region (maakunta / landskap) of Finland. It borders the regions of Northern Ostrobothnia, North Karelia and Northern Savonia. In the east it also borders Russia. Kainuu is known in the ancient Norse sagas as Kvenland. The administrative capital is Kajaani. Kainuu has around 85,000 inhabitants (2006) and the population is in decline. The nature of Kainuu features forested hills, lakes and vast expanses of uninhabited woods at its most typical — 95% of the land area is forest.

Pohjavaara

Pohjavaara is a village in the municipality of Sotkamo in Kainuu, Finland. There are many organic farmers in village and the village is particularly known its potatoes. Pohjavaara's postal code is 88490. There are also school (Pohjavaaran koulu) in village where is classes 1–6. Three teacher and 45 children working in term 2007–2008 in school.

Kajaani Castle

The Kajaani castle was built on the Ämmäkoski island of the Kajaani river in the centre of Kajaani, Finland, in the 17th century. Today, only roofless ruins remain of the castle. The castle functioned as an administrative centre, a prison, and a military strongpoint. The most famous prisoner in the castle was the historian Johannes Messenius, who was forced to live in the poor conditions of the castle from 1616 to 1635. Construction of the Kajaani castle began in 1604 and was completed in 1619.
