Höytiäinen

Höytiäinen is a lake in Finland. A mismanaged drainage attempt during 1859, the lake was by around one third of its size. It flows trough a channel formed in the drainage attempt, called Höytiäisenkanava, into Lake Pyhäselkä in the province of Northern Karelia. This flows into the Vuoksi River, then into the Neva River delta and via Russia to the Gulf of Finland.

Lake Pohjalampi

Lake Pohjalampi is a lake in eastern Finland. The lake has a surface area of 61 hectares, and the mean and maximum depth are 3.2 meters and 5.3 meters, respectively. The lake was used to study the effects of biomanipulation on a small, mesotrophic lake. From 1993 to 1997, over 200 kilograms per hectare of fish, mainly roach (Rutilus rutilus) and bream (Abramis brama) were caught and removed. This resulted in a reduction of nearly 80% of fish biomass.

Pielisjoki

Pielisjoki River is a 67 km long river in Eastern Finland. It is the sixth most fast-flowing river in Finland and the largest river draining into Lake Saimaa. The river connects the two largest lakes in North Karelia, Pielinen and Pyhäselkä (part of Greater Saimaa). The city of Joensuu is situated at the mouth of the river.
