Médoc

The Médoc is a region of France, well known as a wine growing region, located in the département of Gironde, on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, north of Bordeaux. Its name comes from Medullicus, or "country of the Medulli", the local Celtic tribe. The region owes its economic success mainly to the production of red wine; it is home to around 1,500 vineyards. The area also has pine forests and long sandy beaches.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux, archaically La Mothe de Margaux, is a wine estate of Bordeaux wine, and was one of four wines to achieve Premier cru (first growth) status in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. The estate's best wines are very expensive. The estate is located in the commune of Margaux on the left bank of the Garonne estuary in the Médoc region, in the département of Gironde, and the wine is delimited to the AOC of Margaux.

Bordeaux-Mérignac Air Base

Bordeaux-Mérignac Air Base is a former (1951–1958) United States Air Force base in France. It is located in the Gironde département, 6 miles west of the city of Bordeaux. During the early years of the Cold War, Bordeaux-Mérignac was a front-line base for the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE).

Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (French: Aéroport de Bordeaux-Mérignac) serves the French city of Bordeaux. It is located in the town of Mérignac, 12 km west of Bordeaux, within the département of Gironde. In 2012, the airport served 4,380,185 passengers, making it the sixth busiest airport in France in terms of passengers. General Charles de Gaulle took off from the airport to travel to London in 1940, and the following day he broadcast the Appeal of 18 June.
