Château de Pirou

The Château de Pirou is a castle in the commune of Pirou, in the département of Manche, France. The castle was initially built of wood, then of stone in the 12th century and belonged to the lords of Pirou. It was constructed near the shore of the English Channel, and used to watch upon the west coast of the Cotentin, to protect the town of Coutances. The castle was transformed into a farm during the 18th century, and then began to deteriorate.

Gorges Airfield

Gorges Airfield is an abandoned World War II military airfield, which is located near the commune of Gorges in the Manche region of northern France. Located just outside of Gorges (likely to the east or southeast), the United States Army Air Force established a temporary airfield on 2 August 1944, shortly after the Allied landings in France The airfield was constructed by the IX Engineering Command, 826th Engineer Aviation Battalion.

Coutances Cathedral

Coutances Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Coutances) is a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral constructed from 1210 to 1274 in the town of Coutances, Normandy, France. It incorporated the remains of an earlier Norman cathedral. It is the seat of the Bishop of Coutances and Avranches, previously the Bishops of Coutances. Standing 80 metres (295 ft) tall, it dominates the town and can be seen from as far away as the island of Jersey.
