Hill 262

Hill 262, or the Mont Ormel ridge (elevation 262 metres), is an area of high ground above the village of Coudehard in Normandy that was the location of a bloody engagement in the final stages of the Normandy Campaign during the Second World War. By late summer 1944, the bulk of two German armies had become surrounded by the Allies near the town of Falaise. The Mont Ormel ridge, with its commanding view of the area, sat astride the Germans' only escape route.

Château de Courcy

The Château de Courcy is a ruined castle in the commune of Courcy in the south of the Calvados département of France. The edifice, typical of 12th-13th century military architecture, is in danger due to the lack of protective measures, even since being added to the monument historique inventory by the French Ministry of Culture in 1975.

Operation Tractable

Operation Tractable was the final offensive conducted by Canadian and Polish Army troops, supported by one brigade of British tanks, as part of the Battle of Normandy. The goal of this operation was to capture the strategically important French town of Falaise, and following that, the smaller towns of Trun and Chambois.
