Allouis longwave transmitter

The Allouis longwave transmitter first entered service, as France's central longwave transmitter, in 1939. It is located near the village of Allouis. Prior to its destruction in 1944 by German forces, it used an aerial with four masts and a transmitter rated at 500 kilowatts. On 19 October 1952 a new 250 kW transmitter came into service. This used a special cage aerial, mounted on a 308-metre high earthed mast.

TDF time signal

TDF is a time signal broadcast by TéléDiffusion de France from the Allouis longwave transmitter at 162 kHz, with a power of 2 MW. It is also known as FI or France Inter because the transmitter primarily broadcasts the France Inter AM signal. The time signal is generated by an extremely accurate caesium fountain atomic clock and phase-modulated on the 162 kHz carrier in a way that is inaudible when listening to the France Inter signal using a normal AM receivers.

Yèvre

The Yèvre is a river in central France, right tributary of the river Cher. Its source is near the village Gron, east of Bourges. The Yèvre flows generally west through the following towns, all in the département Cher: Baugy, Avord, Saint-Germain-du-Puy, Bourges, Mehun-sur-Yèvre and Vierzon. The Yèvre flows into the Cher in Vierzon. Its main tributary, the river Auron, flows into the Yèvre in Bourges. Another tributary, the Airain, flows into the Yèvre in Savigny-en-Septaine.
