Roman Catholic Diocese of Langres

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Langres is a Roman Catholic Latin Rite diocese in France. The diocese comprises the département of Haute-Marne. The diocese is now a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Reims having been a suffragan of Lyon until 2002. The current Archbishop is Philippe Jean Marie Joseph Gueneley, appointed in 1999. The diocese covers a territory of 6,250 km and its estimated catholic population is 140,000.

Langres Cathedral

Langres Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Mammès de Langres) is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the town of Langres. It was built in the twelfth century and is dedicated to the 3rd century martyr Mammes of Caesarea. It is the seat of the Bishop of Langres. Around 1140, bishop Geoffroy de La Roche-Vanneau (1139-1162), a companion of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, took the decision to rebuild the cathedral.
