Lay (river)

The Lay is a 120.3 km long river in the Vendée département, western France. Its source is at Saint-Pierre-du-Chemin. It flows generally southwest. It flows into the Bay of Biscay between La Faute-sur-Mer and L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, 20 km northwest of La Rochelle. Its main tributaries are the Yon and the Smagne.

Château de Bressuire

The Château de Bressuire is a ruined castle in the town of Bressuire in the Deux-Sèvres département of France. The site has been inhabited continuously since the Celtic epoch. The present castle, most probably founded at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries by the Beaumont family, occupies a considerable area on the rounded extremity of a plateau. With its strong position, it played a leading military role in the battles in Poitou between the kings of England and France over three centuries.

Smagne

The Smagne is a 50.3 km long river in the Vendée département, western France. Its source is near Bourseguin, a hamlet in Bourneau. It flows generally west. It is a left tributary of the Lay into which it flows between Bessay and Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais.
