Île des Embiez

The Île des Embiez is a French island in the Mediterranean sea. It is the largest island in the Embiez archipelago. It is located off the coast of the port of Le Brusc in the commune of Six-Fours-les-Plages, in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in South Western France. Île de Bendor

The Île de Bendor is a French island in the Mediterranean sea. It is located 300m off the coast from the commune of Bandol, in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in South Western France. It was bought and subsequently developed by industrialist Paul Ricard in 1950. A frequent daily ferry service runs to the island from Bandol. The island has a surface area of 0.08 km, with a coastline of 1.5 km. The island is 17m high at its highest point.

Scuttling of the French fleet in Toulon

The French fleet in Toulon was scuttled on 27 November 1942 on the order of the Admiralty of Vichy France to avoid capture by Nazi German forces during Operation Lila of the Case Anton takeover of Vichy France.

German submarine U-967

German submarine U-967 was a German Type VIIC/41 U-boat of the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid down on 16 May 1942 by Blohm + Voss of Hamburg, Germany. She was commissioned on 11 March 1943 with Oberleutnant zur See Herbert Loeder in command. U-967 commanded by Albrecht Brandi on 5 May 1944 torpedoed USS Fechteler in the Western Mediterranean that was sailing with convoy GUS-38.
