Maurienne
Maurienne (or Moriana in Italian) is one of the provinces of Savoy, corresponding to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in France. It is also the original name of the capital of the province, now Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne derailment
The Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne derailment of December 12, 1917, is the most serious railway accident in France’s history. The derailment of an overloaded train carrying nearly 1,000 French soldiers on leave returning from the Italian front, as the train descended the Maurienne valley rail line, caused a catastrophic crash and fire in which approximately 700 died. The accident occurred on the Culoz–Modane railway line, part of the Fréjus Railway.

Valmeinier
Valmeinier is a commune in the Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. Valmeinier, located at the foot of the Mont Thabor, 3207 meters, is a medium size ski resort (about 10,000 beds). The first ski lift was built in 1973, at L'Arméra, connecting to the Valloire ski area. The village at 1,500 m started to develop with the arrival of various holiday villages (Renouveau and LVT Chemins).

The Crimson Rivers
The Crimson Rivers (French: Les Rivières Pourpres) is a 2000 French psychological thriller film directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and based on the best-selling novel Les Rivières Pourpres by the film's co-writer Jean-Christophe Grangé. This $14 million-budgeted film went on to gross $60 million in worldwide theatrical release. A sequel, Crimson Rivers II: Angels of the Apocalypse, was released in 2004.
